Our Understanding of Sustainability

Our Understanding of Sustainability

For us, sustainability means taking responsibility. For our guests, our employees, our partners, our region, and future generations. As an owner-managed city hotel in the heart of Chur, we see sustainability not as a single project but as a continuous process of improvement that shapes our daily operations.

We are convinced that sustainable action begins where daily decisions are made: in investments in our infrastructure, in the selection of our suppliers, in the way we use resources, and in how we support and develop our employees. Through our participation in the Swisstainable sustainability programme, we are committed to the long-term and credible development of our sustainability performance.

Energy, Climate and Infrastructure

The responsible use of energy and resources is a key element of sustainable business practices for us. Therefore, we continuously invest in the modernization of our infrastructure and place great importance on energy efficiency and durability when purchasing new equipment.

One of the most important measures of recent years has been the complete replacement of our former windows with modern triple-glazed windows. This has significantly reduced the building's energy consumption. At the same time, most of the hotel's lighting has been converted to LED technology and supplemented with motion sensors to ensure that energy is used only where it is actually needed.

Resource efficiency will also remain a priority for future investments. For example, an older dishwasher will be replaced with a modern model that reduces both water and energy consumption.

Regional Sourcing and Responsible Procurement

For us, sustainability also means supporting regional value creation. Wherever possible, we give preference to local, regional and national suppliers and producers.

In particular, we consciously choose regional products for our breakfast buffet and beverage selection. Below is an extract of our local and regional suppliers:

Whenever possible, we engage local craftsmen and regional companies for all required work. We also strive to cooperate with sheltered workshops wherever feasible. Among others, the Hosang Foundation Plankis supplies us with flowers and dairy products. Together with Stiftung ARGO, we have implemented various projects such as door hangers and holders for cosmetic signs, while Stiftung Festland produces our name badges.

Sustainable Mobility and Location Advantage

Sustainable mobility begins with the journey to our hotel. Thanks to our unique location directly next to Chur railway station, guests can reach the hotel conveniently by public transport. Many attractions, shopping facilities, restaurants and business centres are also within walking distance.

For guests travelling by electric vehicle, charging stations are available in our garage.

Resources and Circular Economy

  • Careful management of materials and resources is one of the cornerstones of our sustainability efforts. Our goal is to avoid waste, extend the useful life of materials, and continuously reduce resource consumption. For this reason, we increasingly replace printed brochures and information materials with digital information accessible via QR codes. These are laser-engraved onto FSC-certified wooden panels and mounted on bases made of Valser quartzite or regional wood.
  • Our room key cards are made of wood and are FSC certified.
  • Guest amenities such as nail files and sewing kits are packaged in cardboard or paper, while our shoehorns are made of wood. The cosmetic products supplied by Feuerstein in St. Moritz are sustainably produced in Switzerland and provided in large refillable dispensers made from recycled PET.
  • We clean our rooms using dry steam technology. This method is more environmentally friendly, provides natural disinfection, and uses approximately 95% fewer cleaning agents.
  • We source 100% of our electricity from Swiss hydropower and generate part of our hot water through a solar thermal installation on our roof.
