Chur is said to be the oldest town in Switzerland with 5000 years of settlement history. Furthermore, Chur has the highest average temperatures of all Swiss towns and is thus the hottest city in Switzerland in every sense of the word.

The town is an ideal starting point for trips to the adjoining mountain regions such as Arosa, Lenzerheide and Flims both in summer and winter.

Chur is the ideal starting point for memorable railway trips with Rhaetian Railway, fantastic bike tours and a veritable golf safari on six golf courses close by.

For a day's excursion we would recommend: the best possible way to cross the Alps. From the eternal ice of the Bernina Range to the vineyards of the Valtellina with its southern flair. The Bernina Express is the highest transalpine railway. With an incline of 7 per cent, the Bernina Line is one of the steepest railways in the world without rack-and-pinion technology. The train starts at Chur and its destination is Tirano. All trains have panoramic cars, first and second class.

Thanks to a modern aerial cableway, ski lifts and chair lifts, you can reach 2200 m above sea level in the winter directly from the city centre. The 20 km of natural snow pistes offer a surprising number of possibilities at all levels of difficulty (blue/red/black).

Directly from the centre of the capital of Graubünden, you can quickly reach the Brambrüesch trail by taking the aerial cableway. The 2 km long cross-country trail on the Brambrüesch plateau may be small, but it is fantastic. It is suitable for all levels, both for classic and for skating.

High above the Rhine Valley near Chur, there is a magic winter wonderland. The high plateau around the Dreibündenstein is a true paradise for snowshoe tours. The panorama tours from Brambrüesch to Feldis and Pradaschier are wonderful snowshoe routes for which there is even a round trip ticket.
